PROVIDING PRE-EMPLOYMENT MMPIs FOR SECURITY OFFICERS In Texas and New Mexico
Texas: The state of Texas requires pre-employment psychological evaluations for those interested in being Level III Commissioned Security Officers or Level IV Personal Protection Officers per the Texas Occupations Code. This evaluation must include administration of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory.
New Mexico: Applicants for a level three security guard license must be evaluated by a licensed psychologist to determine their mental suitability to carry a firearm. The psychologist will provide a recommendation on the department-provided form, and the original form must be sent to the department within 30 days.

The fee for the examination is payable whether you pass or fail the examination. Insurance is not billed for this service. If an Agency or Company will be covering your evaluation, payment must be made prior to completion of the evaluation.

Please note: The Texas Occupations Code only requires the administration of the MMPI to complete the form certifying the psychological fitness of Security Officers. The Basic Evaluation results are based mainly on the MMPI. When the Provider’s decision is based on only one measure, the risk of the Provider not finding the Applicant to be psychologically fit may be higher . Please consider this information when choosing the type of evaluation – the Comprehensive Psychological Fitness Evaluation provides more data for the Provider to use to make the certification of psychological fitness.
